Innovation in the middle
26 February, 2024 The mid-range of the lattice crawler sector offers a balance between lifting power and ease of set up and use. These are workhorse cranes with less complexity than their heavy weight counterparts. Innovation, however, still matters. Will North reports.

Investing in the future
26 February, 2024 Development is an underlying theme in this issue. Not just in terms of new model development from crane manufacturers but rather through companies investing in their future by building new facilities – such as research and development centres and sales and service branches. This theme follows the example discussed in last month's Comment looking at Liebherr's stateof- the-art Development Centre near Ulm, Germany.
  • Think before you link
A news story today caught my attention. It's regarding a warning issued by the head of MI5, the United Kingdom's domestic counter-intelligence and security agency, concerning professional networking websites.
  • Breathtaking builds
Sometimes I don't know which is more impressive: the various items of incredible infrastructure being designed and built by engineers and construction companies around the world, or the cranes and transport equipment used to build these feats of modern progress.
  • A passion for engineering
"Who wouldn’t want to travel to Italy for an exhibition?" asks Fabio Potestà, director of Mediapoint & Exhibitions, the company responsible for organising the forthcoming GIS 2023 lifting trade show (see News page 18). "We have some of the best scenery, food, and hospitality in the whole world.”
  • Forward Thinking
Diversity. Technological development. Resilience. And investment. These are just four of the many positive attributes of the lifting industry that can are present in this month's issue.
